Quick read method

Too Much to Read and Too Little Time

By Terry Hadaway

I spent the better part of 17 years in and out of higher education( for Sarkari Naukri off course ) . Eleven of those years were invested in taking classes and pursuing degrees. In the process of having to read a lot of books and articles that I didn’t really have time to read, I began asking myself, “Isn’t there a more effective way to do this?” Like many of you, I had a life outside of the academic world. I had a family, jobs, responsibilities, and the desire to enjoy some portion of each week. Reading was necessary, but it wasn’t something I always enjoyed Sarkari Naukri.

One day as I was sitting at my cubicle in the library, I glanced over at the three stacks of books I had accumulated. These books represented the precedent literature I needed to review before writing my dissertation. As the days went by, the stacks of books grew–I was adding books faster than I could review them! I was frustrated and ready to just give up.

That’s when I began developing the basic concepts that have resulted in the quickREAD method. That method now can be obtained in the form of an e-Book from my web site http://www.thinkezine.com.

Here is what I discovered. Even if I poured through every book page by page, my retention level wasn’t that great. So, if I wasn’t going to process it all, wasn’t there a more effective way to do it?

By using the quickREAD method, not only do you process the content, but you end up with a one-page summary of the main points of the text. The process works for books, individual chapters, and articles and for Sarkari Naukri.

Basically, the process involves five steps:

1. Define the content. You must know what the book, chapter, or article is all about.
2. Look forward. Review the introductory material determining the author’s map for the text.
3. Look back. Review the summary material and identify the key terms and concepts.
4. Take note. Scan the entire text locating and reading about the key terms and concepts.
5. Summarize. When you can put into your own words the main points of the text, you have a basic knowledge of the content.

Should You Study Abroad

Every year thousands and thousands of people leave the comforts of their homes to study abroad. Many feel that studying abroad gives them a kind of prestige in their home country. It may even lead to a better job. And quite a few people want to study abroad for the pure pleasure and excitement it brings. But living and studying in another country can also have its problems. You should be aware of what you are getting into before you start packing your bags.
Disadvantages of Studying Abroad
Studying abroad does not mean you will learn their language magically- Many people think that they just need to live in another country and they will learn the local language. This is not completely true. You still need to pay attention and study. There are people who live in foreign countries for many, many years without knowing the language well. However, it will probably come to you easier and faster than if you just studied the language in your home country.

Studying abroad can be hard- You will probably have times when you miss your family, friends, food, and everything familiar. Almost everyone goes through some culture shock. You will have to realize and accept that it will take some time to adjust to a new way of living.

Studying abroad can be expensive- There is no doubt that it takes money to study abroad. It can vary from kind of expensive to very expensive. Most places don’t allow international students to work. You will have to have the money before you arrive in the country or have someone from home support you. Check out this aspect thoroughly before you venture out.

Advantages of Studying Abroad

Easy to learn the global language (English). Yes, you need to pay attention and do some studying, but everything comes faster when you do because English is everywhere- on the streets, in the stores, on the TV- you can’t get away from it.

Your eyes are opened to the world. We grow up tuned to our way of doing things in our own sweet world, oblivious of the world outside. But staying in a new culture helps us realize new and different ways of life, and also helps us to see that even though we are different, we are all human. We also have the advantage of experiencing a global culture which broadens our vision, tolerance and acceptance level.

You learn to take care of yourself. Living in another country, even if it is with a host family, means you might be doing things you may not have done in your home country. These include cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, washing clothes, figuring out transportation, making living arrangements, setting up accounts for cell phones and utilities, etc. You may think of this as a disadvantage, but many international students go home proud that they have become very self sufficient.

Your life will be forever changed. One of the greatest things that happens when you do something as big as live in another country is- you become a changed person- your outlook on life changes. Your new maturity can help you become a better person.

You make memories that will last a lifetime. Your pictures, journals, and souvenirs will help you remember your time abroad, but your memories and emotions of this special time will also be a part of your life until you are very old.

So how can you know if studying abroad is right for you? First, start by talking to people who have already done it. You will gain from their experiences. You can also check out the internet for detailed information.

Is studying abroad an expensive affair?

A myth surviving since a long time .But ironically, it may actually be cheaper to study abroad than it is our own country! Studying abroad need not be financially expensive. Attending a study abroad program is not necessarily anymore expensive than staying at your current university, and in some cases you may actually save money by studying abroad.

You have to persistently work for Scholarships and Financial Aid. Many students fail to pursue scholarships because they believe scholarship competition is so fierce that only the most exceptional students receive awards. The truth is you do not have to be a super student to win scholarships.
You must be willing to spend time and effort to check out the various financial resources. While the universities and colleges offer financial aid to international students in the form of awards, teaching and research assistant ships and tuition waivers, there are other agencies and institutions that offer financial help too.

This could be in the form of loans, loan scholarships or gift scholarships. Many prestigious institutions offer grants and aid to deserving students. The trick is to start early, as the aid available is both limited and competitive. Some of the college costs that should figure in your budget planning are the tuition fees, books and study materials, living expenses, health insurance and clothing to name a few. Most students don’t realize that the use of financial aid and scholarships can make study abroad more affordable
Studying abroad can really change your life. And hopefully if you decide to do it, it will be a wonderful experience for you.

How to Document your Projects

Here are the essential documents you need to complete…

Initiation

  • Business Case: To justify the financial investment in your project, you need to write a Business Case. It lists the costs and benefits, so everyone knows what the return on investment will be.
  • Feasibility Study: Before you kick-off your project, you need to determine whether your project is feasible, using a Feasibility Study.
  • Project Charter: You then need to document the objectives, scope, team, time frames and deliverable  in a Project Charter.

Planning

  • Project Plan: You need to create a Project Plan listing all of the tasks required to undertake your project from start to finish. Every task must be scheduled, so you know what needs to be done and when.
  • Resource Plan: Next, you need to plan your resources by documenting the money, equipment and materials needed for your project.
  • Quality Plan: You then need to set quality targets, so that the project deliverables meet the expectations of your customer.
  • Risk Plan: All of the risks need to be documented and their likelihood and impact on the project identified.
  • Communication Plan: You need to plan your communications, so that you send the right messages to the right people, at the right time.

Execution

  • Time Management: – You need to use Timesheets to track time spent on your project. Then update your Project Plan with your Timesheet data to see whether your project is still within schedule.
  • Cost Management: Track your costs using Expense Forms. Every expense is formally logged and approved, so that you can confirm at any time that you are currently under budget.
  • Change Management: Document each change to the project scope, using Change Forms. You can then control change to ensure your project is always on track.
  • Risk Management: Use Risk Forms to document each risk to the project. You can then manage project risk carefully to ensure that nothing happens that will affect the project schedule or budget.
  • Issue Management: As each issue occurs on the project, you need to investigate its impact on the project and then write it up on an Issue Form. You can then kick off the tasks needed to resolve it quickly.

Closure

  • Project Closure Report: When your project is complete, document all of the actions needed to close the project properly. This includes releasing teams and suppliers, equipment and materials.
  • Post Project Review: And after your project has been closed, you can review its success and document the results for your sponsor. That way, you can show that all of the objectives were met and that the project was delivered on time and within budget.

And there you have it. By completing each of these documents for your project, you can boost your chances of success.
